Classroom Policies

At ChessMate Camp, we believe that a positive and respectful learning environment fosters success for every student. These classroom policies ensure that all participants enjoy the camp safely, stay focused, and get the most out of their camp experience.

Attendance and Punctuality:

  • Students are expected to arrive on time for each session so that lessons can begin promptly.

  • Parents should ensure timely drop-off and pick-up at the designated location.

  • Please notify the instructor in advance if your child will be absent.

  • Missed sessions will not be refunded or rescheduled.

Behavior and Respect:

  • All students must show respect to instructors, assistants, and fellow students.

  • Bullying, teasing, or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.

  • Students should listen when others are speaking and follow instructions during activities and games.

  • Repeated disruptive behavior may result in temporary removal from class or dismissal from the camp without refund.

Participation and Engagement:

  • Students are encouraged to actively participate in lessons, puzzles, and games.

  • During practice games, good sportsmanship is expected.

  • Asking questions and helping peers is encouraged.

Classroom Materials:

  • Chess boards, pieces, and teaching tools provided by ChessMate Camp must be treated with care.

  • Students should return all materials at the end of each session.

  • Personal chess sets may be brought, but ChessMate Camp is not responsible for loss or damage.

  • Please avoid bringing unrelated toys or electronic devices.

Electronics and Distractions

  • Phones, tablets, and other devices should be kept away during lessons unless used for a chess-related activity.

  • Students may use devices only with instructor approval (e.g., digital chess puzzles or analysis tools).

End-of-Session Tournament:

  • Each 10-week session concludes with a friendly class tournament.

  • All students are expected to participate to apply what they’ve learned in real play.

  • Prizes will be presented for performance, effort, and sportsmanship.

Communication with Parents:

  • Parents will receive updates on student progress and reminders before important events.

  • By registering for ChessMate Camp, parents and students agree to follow these classroom policies to maintain a respectful, safe, and enriching learning environment.
